Agnes A. Kohler

Agnes A. Kohler, 96, of Madison, passed away peacefully at home, Thursday, May 7, 2015.
She was born November 8, 1918, in Cleveland, the daughter of the late George and Anna (Vitous) Schindler. Agnes married the love of her life Leonard Kohler on July 20, 1940 and enjoyed over 50 years together.
Agnes was an avid quilter and was a dedicated member of the Chapel United Methodist Church and quilt group. She made multiple quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting and quilling (paper crafting) and enjoyed sharing her techniques and secrets with others. She loved to bake and cook for her family and no one ever left her home hungry.
She was employed at Paisley Farm Products in Mentor for 22 years and retired as plant manager in charge of research and development of new products in 1979. Agnes and Leonard operated a small greenhouse and truck farm in Mentor and supplied plants and produce to area businesses. After retirement, you could find them most weekends enjoying local polka events. They took many trips, including several to Europe, sponsored by local polka bands.
She is survived by her daughters, Magdalena "Mickey" (Bill) Benjamin of Akron and Sharon Chaffee of Madison; five grandchildren, Theresa (Tom) Clark, Kathy Benjamin, Keith (Lisa) Chaffee, Tamara (Dwayne) Grimes, and Scott (Tina) Chaffee; Eleven great-grandchildren, Kyle, Jayne, Alex, Eve, Madison, Garrett, Brian, Sidney, Taylor, Jack and Mason.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, in 1991; her parents; brothers, George and Albert Schindler; step-mother, Rose Schindler and son-in-law, Norm Chaffee.
Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Chapel United Methodist Church, 2019 Hubbard Road, Madison, Ohio. Rev John Germaine will be officiating. Inurnment will be at Mentor Cemetery at a later date.
