Eufrosina "Fina" Gruber, a resident of Harpersfield Township surrounded by her family passed away on January 5, 2016. Born in Rio Piedeas, Puerto Rico on November 28, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Margarita and Celestino Rodrigo. She attend school in Rio Piedras and graduated from Castras Institute of Technology Business Administration. Following graduation she worked at Royal Bank of Canada in San Juan. It was there that she met her future husband Raymond Gruber Sr., who was in the Navy and was stationed in Puerto Rico. They were engaged before he was deployed overseas and soon afterward Fina decided to join the Woman's Army Corp (WAC). Upon his discharge and while Fina was still in the WAC she came to meet his family and then they decided to get married on January 26, 1946. Their marriage was held at Assumption Church in Geneva and they were married for 61 years and 10 months when Raymond passed away. They had five children; Priscilla Bell (deceased), Patricia (Ryan, deceased) Penvose, Ray (Fran), Ric (Ellie) and Robert (Heather). She has eleven grandchildren: Melissa, Kelly, Eric, Ryan, Joshua, Jason, Jared, Michelle, David, Clayton and Amanda along with 13 great grandchildren: Gage, Allison, Abbie, Nathanael, Rebekah, Jeremiah, Kyle, Jayden, Bradlyn, Deanna, Eric, Raymond III and Reynolds. In Geneva she worked at the Farmers Bank, La Raza United Social Worker, and Head Start teacher. She also volunteered at Assumption Church and served as President of Altar Rosary Society. Fina was also a member of the Harpersfield Ruritans club, Charter member and past President of Cinderella's which is a support organization of the Harpersfield Fire Department. She served as the Beautification Lady of Harpersfield Township, past President of the Cork PTA, and a past committee member of the Ashtabula Fair Housing. Fina was also past Browning and 4H leader, member of the Slovenian Folk Dancers, Northwest Ambulance, booth workers and Precinct Committeewomen for the Democratic Part. Fina was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6846, American Legion Post 124, Harpersfield Historical Society, and American Slovenian Lodge 31. She enjoyed dancing, especially the polkas, bingo at the Senior Center, and traveling to the casino. But mostly she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and helping others. She preceded in death by her husband Raymond, and daughter Priscilla, her mother and father, sisters and brothers in Puerto Rico. Friends and family will be received: 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at The Behm Family Funeral Home, 175 S. Broadway, Geneva, Ohio 44041. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Assumption Catholic Church, 594 West Main St. in Geneva with Father Robert Lanterman officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Geneva. Memorial Contributions can be made to Harpersfield Fire Department, Geneva Senior Center, Assumption Church or University Hospital Hospice.
