Theodore "Ted" Ogle Jr.

Theodore “Ted” Ogle Jr., age 67 of Madison, OH, passed away peacefully at his home in the presence of his family and his faithful dog, Ranger. Born September 16, 1958, in Lorain, he was the son of the late Martha and Theodore Ogle, Sr. Growing up in the close-knit community of Chardon, Ohio, Ted formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. He was a proud graduate of Chardon High School and cherished the bonds he maintained with his classmates.

In 1983, Ted’s life changed forever when he met Karen Starkey while constructing a horse barn on her parents’ property. They married one year later, October 27, 1984. Together, while raising a family, they founded Structural Concepts, a successful business that they ran side by side for 35 years. Even as his health declined, Ted’s love for building continued; he left his mark on the homes of his daughters, Ashley and Kelley, with projects that his family will cherish forever. Ted could always be found supporting his girls and grandchildren’s activities, horse shows, dog shows, sporting events, and school activities. His life included many interests and hobbies such as camping, golfing, fishing, and traveling. His heart was always full during family camping trips to places like Thousand Trails, Cook Forest, and Tionesta. With his family, he spent many trips enjoying the Great Smoky Mountains, cruising with family and friends to the Caribbean or Alaska, and visiting Fort Myers Beach, FL on a yearly basis for 30 years. The icing on the cake was taking his entire family on a cruise to Alaska one month ago, a journey driven by his strong determination and love for his family. His joy in witnessing the excitement in the eyes of his children and grandchildren was a testament to his love for his family.

Ted is survived by his wife of 42 years, Karen; his daughters, Ashley (Brian) Sferra and Kelley (Timothy) Herman; and his cherished grandchildren, Parker Warmington, Timmy Herman, Haylee Herman, Teagan Sferra and Grayson Sferra. He also leaves behind sisters Theresa, Donna (Walter), and Liz (Al) and his brother, Jack (Bonnie) Ogle along with close friend, Parker’s dad, John Michael Warmington and of course, his dog, Ranger.

Ted’s circle of life included countless friends from all walks of life as he met friends wherever he went, while camping, working, and those lifelong friends from growing up in Chardon. He was predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Martha Ogle, in-laws, Bill and Norma Starkey, and the son he never had, Eric Rolf. Ted’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, love, and friendship.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Ted’s love for especially dogs, donations can be made to Geauga Mama Dogs & Pups in Burton, Ohio or to Reserve Care, formerly Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH as we will always be so thankful for the care they provided to Ted and the family.

Please join Ted’s family for a celebration of life on Saturday August 29th at the Ogle Farm at 5781 Ledge Rd. in Madison. A service by the pond will take place at 3:00 PM, followed by dinner at 4:30 with music following. Guests are welcome and encouraged to bring a camper or tent to spend the night, please set up prior to the service at the pond. This celebration will be the grand finale of a life well lived, and we can all hear Ted saying, “All I wanted was a party”!

As we remember Ted, let us hold onto the words of 2 Timothy 4:7, which so fittingly describes his life: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
