December 24, 1944 ~ June 28, 2026

Resided in: Virginia Beach, VA

Betty Ann Smith, age 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at her home in Virginia Beach, surrounded by her loving family.
Formerly of Madison, Ohio, Betty was born on December 24, 1944, in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, to the late Rudolph and Mary Ellen (Harris) Thomas. She was raised in Alexandria, Pennsylvania, where she attended Juniata Valley Senior High School. Before her retirement, Betty dedicated many years of service to the banking profession, finishing the latter part of her career at Cardinal Credit Union in Mentor, Ohio, where she worked as a teller and assistant manager.
Betty was a member of the Madison Park United Methodist Church and a passionate sports fan who spent years cheering for the Cleveland Browns and Guardians (Indians). Above all, Betty loved her family deeply and found great joy in spending time with them. She enjoyed the simplicity of a glass of wine, accompanied by the love of her life, James. They often sat on their back deck together, watching the sun set to the west, overlooking the pond and the tree line that led into the woods.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Smith; her parents; and her sister, Cathy Moore.

She is survived by her sister Mary L. Knudson, her devoted children: Christine E. Shultz, and her sons Jeffrey M. Shultz and Johnny B. Shultz; and her stepchildren, Patrick Smith and Kim Ford.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her six grandchildren: Raymond Shultz, Alisha Pyle, Megan A. Claycomb, Valerie A. Pardun, Cortney R. Shultz, and Dominic Imondi; as well as her six step-grandchildren: Amanda Parisi, James R. Valtman, Meghan Ford, Justin Ford, Katie Smith, and Abigail Smith. Betty was also the proud great-grandmother of Charlotte and Oliver Pardun, Mallory and Turk Claycomb, Elizabeth Pyle, Marilyn Monteiro, and Ila, Ryder, and Brooklynn Shultz; and step-great-grandmother of Alyvia Hadesh and Anthony Parisi.

Friends will be received from 12pm to 1pm on Saturday, September 5th, 2026 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison, Ohio. A Funeral Service will follow at 1pm at the funeral home.
