Lois Jean (Brainard) Shreves, age 88, died on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at her home.
The daughter of Ann (Gergely) Brainard and Alfred Brainard, Lois was born on September 13, 1937 in Painesville, Ohio. From a very early age, she attended the First Baptist Church of Painesville where she and her husband Bill were married on June 28, 1958. After graduating from Harvey High School in Painesville in 1955, Lois became a full-time homemaker. Family was always first and foremost, and creating memories with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a very special part of her life.
She was a long-time member of Perry United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. Lois was an avid reader and dedicated walker who, along with her husband Bill, took part in many Cleveland Marathon 10K walks and Johnnycake Jog walks. In the summer, they would walk outdoors and in the winter months they were “mall walkers.”
Lois and her husband of 68 years were long time antique car buffs and treasured the time spent with special friends on their various car activities. She was a member of Ohio Region, Western Reserve Chapter of Antique Automobile Club of America, The Stutz Club, The Early Ford Club, and the Vintage Motor Car Club. Lois lived with her husband Bill in the home that Bill built for 66 years.
Lois shared her ministry of personalized greeting cards for many years, through her church members, her family, and with anyone, she felt was in need of support and up lifting. She also made memory books for each of her seven grandchildren upon their high school graduations.
She was a member of the Holden Arboretum where she and Bill loved to enjoy a hike and picnic. Their favorite area was the Rhododendron Garden.
Lois was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Brainard; her mother, Ann (Gergely) Brainard and her brother, Joseph Brainard.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; daughters, Sandra Jean (Kevin) Aldrich, Patricia Anne (Rob Miller) Comes; son, William (Tammy) Shreves; grandchildren, Kayla (Michael) Yoe, Katie (Phil) Ward, Adam (Kylie) Aldrich, Steven Aldrich, Jimmy, Joshua (Taylor) and Nicholas (Angel) Comes; and great-grandchildren, Veda, Ashton, Matilda, Lila, Chloe, Leon, Claire, Rosie, Luna, Thomas, and Anna.
Private Graveside Service for the family will be held at Perry Cemetery. Everyone is invited to attend a Celebration of Life at their family home, 3234 Townline Rd. in Perry on August 8, 2026, from 12-4PM. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The Behm Family Funeral Home is caring for the family during this time. Lois will never be forgotten by those whose lives she touched. I cherish the wonderful memories of baking cookies together, participating in all the old car events, sharing dinners, raising our children together, and laughing over silly stuff. Miss you friend.
