Resided in: Madison, OH

John Channels, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Cleveland VA Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, United States Marine, and faithful servant of God, John leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, service, and devotion.

John proudly served as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of American Legion Post 112 for more than 40 years. A committed advocate for fellow veterans, he served as Post 112
Commander in 1985 and County Commander from 1985 to 1986, reflecting his lifelong
dedication to service and community.

John dedicated more than 30 years of service to Lake County, working in electrical maintenance for the Lake County Buildings and Grounds Department and the Telecommunications Department in Painesville, Ohio. He was a longtime member of Chapel United Methodist Church, where he faithfully served in various capacities.

He especially loved spending time with family and friends. His quick wit and sense of humor
brought joy and laughter to all who knew him. To his grandchildren, he was simply “Papa”, their
biggest supporter, teacher, and cheerleader. Whether he was teaching them to fish, working
alongside them in the yard, attending their games and school events, or encouraging them
through life’s milestones, he cherished every moment spent with them. He took great pride in
their accomplishments, and his greatest joy was watching them grow.

John was preceded in death by his father Loyd, mother Florence, brother Michael, and sister
Judy. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Robin Channels. Together they shared a life
built on love, devotion, and an enduring partnership that inspired all who knew them. He is also
survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Craig) Ayala, and Amanda (Chip) Leckonby; grandchildren,
Zoe, Brody, AJ, and Evelyn; his sister Linda (Jesse) Davidson and brothers, Richard (Carol)
Channels and Tom Channels.

His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and
never forgotten.
