Marlene Marie Shannon (nee Aupperle), age 86 of Madison, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Ashtabula County Nursing Home with family by her side. She was born July 31, 1939, in Adair, Iowa, the daughter of Alta (Hutchins) and George Roy Aupperle. She was proud of her Iowa heritage and the family farm where she grew up. A proud graduate of the Anita Class of 1957. She left for California after graduation to attend Biola College. She was employed by The Pacific Bell Company in Los Angeles and married John F. Shannon Jr. in 1961, in Las Vegas. Together they settled in Ohio for the remainder of their lives.
Marlene lived by the verse Psalm 118:24 “This is the day the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it!” Her legacy centered on passing this message on to her children and grandchildren. She was very intentional in her Christian faith praying for her children and grandchildren daily. She was a strong advocate for Christian Schools, and she and John, sacrificed to ensure all of their children received a Christian education. They even bought a VW van to begin transporting children from Madison to Mentor Christian School on a daily basis. Her love for her garden and especially her hydrangeas will continue to flourish at the family homestead where Kasey’s family currently resides.
She is survived by her siblings: Neil Aupperle and Delores Templeman; her children: Scott (Dawn) Shannon, Patrick (Jennifer) Shannon, Kami (Joey) Marko, Kasey (Rex) Kilian; grandchildren: Brandi (Jesse) Selby, Ryan Shannon, Ashley (Nathan) Clink, Kyle (Brooke) Shannon, Amber Traxler, Christian Marko, Kayley, Caden, and Chloe Kilian; great-grandchildren: Cody, Hannah, Dalton, Maya, Brody, Nina, Natalie, Callie, Owen, Aubrey, Brody, Teagan, Ellie and Thea.
