Resided in: Harpersfield, OH

Ronald Vincent O’Connell, 73, passed away unexpectedly on March 25, 2026. Born on May 13, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ron was the son of Neil O’Connell and Dorothy (Griffin). He was one of twelve siblings in a large Irish Catholic family.
In 1978, he married Kathlene Davis. Together they built a life over nearly five decades, raising their two daughters and creating a home centered around family, shared experiences, and enduring care for one another. Their home was not only a place for family, but one that opened itself to so many others—friends and extended family alike often spoke about how welcome and safe they felt there. It was a reflection of the life Ron and Kathy built together.

Ron spent much of his professional life as an engineer. He worked for many years at Eaton Corporation before dedicating nearly two decades to Plastpro in Ashtabula as a quality control engineer. Ron didn’t just uphold standards—he set them. He took pride in his work, in the people around him, and in the community they built together. Known for his ability to connect with anyone, he turned coworkers into friends and left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with. And, of course, there were his jokes—undeniably bad, perfectly timed, and somehow unforgettable.

In the mid-1990s, Ron and Kathy made their home on a farm in Harpersfield, a place that became central to his life. The farm brought him a sense of peace and purpose. He found joy in gardening, especially in his later years, learning through trial and error and sharing the harvest with anyone who wanted it. One of his favorite parts of the day was sunset, when the light would settle across the field and form what he called “the crown” along the treeline—something he pointed out often and never stopped appreciating. Whether tending the garden, playing music, or enjoying and sharing a glass of wine, he found meaning in the simple, beautiful moments.

Music was a constant throughout Ron’s life. From his younger days playing around Pittsburgh to countless gatherings with family and friends, his guitar was never far away. He had a way of making every song his own, filling rooms with music, laughter, and connection.
Ron cared deeply about people. He believed in showing up, standing beside others, and doing what he felt was right. That care extended beyond his immediate circle to his community and the world around him.

He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Kathlene; his daughters, Hilary (Dan Ohlin) and Chloe (Gabriel McVey); and his beloved grandchildren, Cecilia and Jack, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his siblings: Rosanne (Harry) Price, Roberta (David) Dinneen, Regina (Gary) Garda, Russell O’Connell, and Ralph O’Connell; and was preceded in death by Raymond (Rosemary) O’Connell, Rita (John) Milroth, Richard (Rhonda) O’Connell, Regis (Linda) O’Connell, Ruth (Ron) Benjamin, and Robert (Linda) O’Connell. He also leaves behind many extended family members and countless friends who considered him family.

Ron lived life with his heart on his sleeve, surrounding those around him with love, humor, and compassion—even if it was sometimes a little extra. That was just Ronnie. And he will be deeply missed.

A private family service has been held. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, May 16, at the farm he loved, with further details to be shared. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Ron’s memory may consider supporting a cause that reflects his values: https://www.aclu.org Online obituary may be found at www.behmfuneral.com
