James L. Brown, age 87 of Thompson, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at The Preserve Senior Living in Mentor. He was born December 18, 1938 in New Castle, PA, the son of John and Freida (McConnell) Brown. He married Della Pauline (Sulfridge) on March 31, 1962.

Jim served as an Atomic Veteran in the Navy from 1956-1959. He retired from Lubrizol as a welder-pipefitter. Jim had many skills and interests including, gunsmith, locksmith, wood carving, knives, knife making, reading, learning, mechanics, cutting firewood, all kinds of animals and nature. He had a great sense of humor, always joking around and teasing. He was raised in Amish country in New Wilmington, PA. He was proud of his membership in the Masonic Lodge. Jim was highly respected for his honest, hard working, down to earth morals, as a kind, loving, gentle man. Most of all he loved God and his family. He raised his family to be honest and hard working, respectful on a small farm, with many animals, in Thompson, Ohio for 50 years. He was the best husband, dad, grandpa, brother and uncle.

He is survived by his daughters, Lynda (Dean) Gainer, Maureen (James) Carloni, and Colleen (Mark) Sharp, step-daughter, Tammy Andrews; grandchildren, Robert (Krystal) Carloni, Lorene (Zack) Tooley, Sean (Carlie) Tooley, Lonny Andrews, Gene Green, Chantel Quint, Paul Andrews, Velvet Smith; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Hoffman; brother, John (Eileen) Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life for 57 years, Della Pauline Brown; step-daughter, Trisha Green, son-in-law Gregory Green and his parents.

Friends will be received 4-6 pm Monday, March 9, 2026 at the Behm Family Funeral Home, 26 River St., Madison, OH 44057 with a Service following at 6 pm. Final Resting Place will be Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273, promptly at 12 pm. noon, Tuesday, March 10th.

The family has much appreciation of the loving care he received from Preserve Senior Living in Mentor and Visiting Angels.
